Federal Government

AND THE NOMINATIONS ARE: Victorian ALP preselection frolics in painful detail

Savants and patriots alike will be keen to know the precise detail of who has nominated where in the Victorian ALP preselections. As you can see, for the most part, incumbents have been re-preselected. In some cases, not so shy and retiring Keilor MP George Seitz has put up some candidates to ensure that the incumbents stay in touch with their membership. In others, the SDA, CFMEU/AMWU unions have had some fun bringing on contests, in places where many expect they are likely to win nothing but opprobrium.

Enjoy.

  15. Brimbank Council Hacks:

Calwell: Manfred Kirchbaum (this is the correct spelling) – Father of Heidi Seitz who married into the Seitz family. Heidi is a current Brimbank City Councillor.

Mill Park: Roza Mitrevski. Dummy candidate in Taylors Ward giving votes back to Heidi Seitz – received 278 votes from over 30,000 formal votes. Didn’t respond to local newspaper interview requests.

Northcote: Teresa Kiselis – Mother in law of Maria Kiselis, current Brimabnk City Councillor. Teresa also ran against Natalie Suleyman when she was first elected.
Mate Barun – Seitz loyalist who helps out during elections. A fellow Croatian whose English is not very good. His Daughter Suzie Barun was a Seitz dummy candidate for Peter Gelo.

Thomastown: Bozinovski – Not sure but perhaps related to Brimbank Councillor Robert Bozinovski – but then again he works in O’Connor’s office.

WE DON’T WANT YOU, VAMVAKINOU: Calwell Voters Condemn Arrogant Out-of-Towner

The Hume Leader newspaper that covers all of the City of Hume made clear what the OC has been saying for some time: Maria Vamvakinou is a despised Member of Parliament, loathed for her arrogance and ineffectiveness.

It makes for a devastating critique of Vamvakinou’s out of control, out of town arrogance.

When locals were asked by the paper whether people thought Calwell federal Labor MP Maria Vamvakinou could properly represent constituents when she lived in Northcote, the responses were very clear:

â–  Dee Lane of Glenroy said: “I suppose if she is not living in the area she doesn’t know what’s really going on.”

â–  Andrew Johnson of Broadmeadows said “I think she should be living here – how does she know what’s going on in Broady if she lives in Northcote?”

â– Clarry Mather of Broadmeadows said “I reckon she ought to spend some time here. I reckon she should live around here, you only hear things (otherwise).”

â–  Samantha from Roxburgh Park said “I think that if you’re going to represent a place, you should live there – your judgment is better when it (the issues) affects you personally.”

â– Troy Mantana of Broadmeadows said “No – she knows nothing about Broady and doesn’t know what the lifestyle is like”

  27. The same old tired faces being reendorsed was part of the stability deal as it was claimed this was needed to prevent the round of preselections being an acrimonious blood bath due to the simmering tensions. Thus Marsha entering the factional fray again, as she is extremely passionate about securing her nice easy taxpayer funded lifestyle.

The Ambition Faction do have a point about the deadwood factor, although clearly their motives are not necessarily pure.

Is Peter Batchelor still in Parliament or has he retired without telling anyone?

  28. Joker, Senator Hutchins has been boned, quite appropriate for a man described by Latham as being in the bonehead faction of the NSW Right. Natalie’s spot has got a lot to do with his relationship with Conroy and her relationship with Shorten. She’s been foisted on Keilor because Shorten couldn’t deliver her Essendon, the seat she thought she was born too. ALP members in the state seat of Essendon have breathed a sigh of relief….

    Posted by Madam Lash | June 27, 2009, 13:36
  41. Hutchins was married to current NSW MP Di Beamer.

He did get a large payout from the TWU when he bolted…he wrote the check himself. That fact was outed in the Daily Telegraph about 2 years ago.

Arbib made sure Hutchins wont be on the Senate ticket for NSW next go around. Steve’s spot has been promised to Graeme Wedderburn, who is currently assigned to save the unsaveable neck of NSW Premier Nathan Rees.

Hutchins has made millions from the union business and the Senate. Natalie is also a director of a media consultancy firm called Global Media and they have a few well paying clients such as the TWU.

These people just cant stop milking the cash cow.

    Posted by Jeff | June 27, 2009, 13:50
  42. People like Hutchins and his missus use the ALP as their own private ATM. The Party is full of the glad-handed, money-grubbing dogs.

They fill our parliaments, add not a thing to any progressive social legislation, whine about the Liberals while hoping to climb the social ladder themselves. They have as much in common with working Australians as they like to keep saying as Malcolm Turnbull would have with a Salvation Army second-hand clothes shop.

I’m not a Seitz fan but didn’t he combine with others to make sure the ALP’s name wasn’t damaged by ensuring a very average candidate beat a scandal plagued candidate? Doesn’t the pact only work to get rid of George cleanly if everyone signs on, which clearly they did not. If Left and Right had brought supporters along, George would be toast. Just an idea.

No consultation with the community , no discussions with local members, no understanding of the key issues of keilor and clearly the neglect over the seitz regime .This decision highlights the backslapping ,and internal cowardice of his faction.
