CRISIS: Lobbying firm ripped apart by high-ranking departures

cprcommunicationsProminent government relations firm CPR Communications’ Melbourne office has been ripped apart by an internal office feud. This morning, well-connected Labor hacks Andres Puig and Brett Miller resigned after an ugly scream session in the office during a firm staff meeting dominated by the rebellious duo and their officious boss and chief executive officer Josh Williams.

Miller was the chief operating officer of CPR and his departure is seen as a big blow for the firm, which was founded in Melbourne and generates a significant percentage of its revenue out of Victoria.

The departures followed an explosive all-hands meeting in CPR’s office and reportedly included former Senator Robert Ray attacking the CEO in very strong personal terms.

Patriots advise VEXNEWS that it is highly likely the former minister Ray, a lobbyist at CPR, will also walk, partly due to his friendship with Puig, a former employee of the former Senator. Ray’s interest in lobbying is said to be mild at best and his decision to get into that line of work was always considered a surprise by political observers.

Puig and Miller are believed to be planning to establish their own firm, taking a number of current CPR clients with them. A number of other long term CPR staff are planning to leave too. What this means for the future of the firm is unknown.

Eric Locke, a former senior executive at the firm, is now running a cosy bar in Melbourne’s CBD which was once believed to have seriously struggled financially. Recently, Locke was able to get permission to build a smoking balcony over Swanston Street and was able to turn the place around. “The balcony was a smart move that saved the business from insolvency,” a source familiar with the matter told VEXNEWS.

  5. Word is that Robert Ray tore Josh Williams a new one in front of all 15 Melbourne-based staff yesterday – called him a liar and a con-artist in front of everybody.

Yet the “CEO” does not have the guts to sack anybody….
