The notorious Construction division of the CFMEU has embarked in a high-stakes game of industrial thuggery and corruption that threatens to disrupt the upgrade of the West Gate bridge.
VEXNEWS has learned that the union is currently paying picketers – some of them from the ranks of a Geelong bikie gang – $1000 per week cash in hand.
The union has promised all of them lucrative jobs on the bridge should they “hold the line.”
LAWLESS
The picket is operating in defiance of Federal Court orders and is a further reminder of the lawlessness and underworld connections by some operating within the construction division of the CFMEU.
The background of the dispute is that the Australian Workers Union have had coverage of the West Gate bridge for a long period of time. Last year, Maoist expansionists from the CFMEU whose hobbies include extortion decided to make a move on the West Gate project strengthening the bridge.
In a climate of rising unemployment, the Construction division of the CFMEU has forced the work on the bridge to cease.
VIOLENCE
John Holland’s HR manager Stephen Sasse told the Australian newspaper today that they’d had to stop work on advice from Victoria Police that it wouldn’t be “safe” to proceed “in the face of quite extensive violence and intimidation.”
There is increasing concern in state government circles about the Construction division of the CFMEU, its willingness to associate with a criminal element and its use of violence. The longer these antics continue, the greater the pressure on the Rudd government to retain the industrial watchdog, the Australian Building and Construction Commission, to restrain the lawless union.
It is clear that the CFMEU regard themselves as above the law. And that the legal measures in place to constrain them are insufficient.
SHAMELESS
In a recent case in the Federal Magistrates Court in Melbourne, the union was fined $38,500 for causing disruption and delays costing hundreds of thousands of dollars at the Yarra Arts Complex more than two years ago.
Despite a record of industrial lawlessness and thuggery, the CFMEU had the chutzpah over the Easter weekend to demand they be paid an extra $54 a week site allowance on any building project funded by the federal government’s stimulus package causing potential cost blowouts in the construction of new schools, social housing and so on. Amazing to think they call themselves a “left-wing” union. Like their brother Maoists in Beijing, they cloak their greedy actions in workers of the world rhetoric while pillaging the funds
what the fuck are the police doing about these criminals
Give it a rest. Good to see a Union doing what its members pay dues for. Who were the HSU “right-wing” unionists visiting recently? Oh thats right (pardon the pun) China. Show some balance Mr Landeryou. If you want to call the CFMEU crooks, be sure to call your mates when the cap fits.
This story wouldnt have anything to do with the CFMEU and SDA dealings would it?
So Vexnews quotes Stephen Sasse in its ongoing attacks on the CFMEU.
This is Stephen Sasse waxing lyrical about WorkChoices in November 2007:
“Finally, what WorkChoices actually does is make the individual employment relationship primary, rather than the collective. That is, subject to an extensive independent test for fairness, the individual arrangement is preferred to the collective. It recognises that most people have the ability and the desire to manage their own affairs, and don’t need to be forced into a collective employment arrangement or into union membership. The primacy of the individual is an aspect of western thought, including the Protestant tradition that deserves far more respect than the cursory treatment in October’s TMA.”
I know which ideologue I prefer.
Poor Hedgehog, would you like to come to China on our next visit?
hsu— no thanks. I pay for my own trips. Nice of you to offer. Get back to work now.
Typical union thugs.
Proof please. Proof. I have been down on the picket line. Never heard any bikes! Didn’t see any bikies. Did see and speak to blokes sacked for not taking an industry inferior agreement. I sought out the proof physically. Show me your proof about the bikies please. Also throw in the proof you have for purple people eaters.
Funny how the all inspiring, all mighty powerfull Neil Mitchell hasn’t jumped all over this one and got stuck into this corrupt union on behalf of his mates in the Liberal Party.
Could it be that Neil Mitchell knows his limitations and is more than happy to blast any State Labor Minister or the Premier with gay abandon, but is too affraid to take on the thugs of the CFMEU fearing of being chased down the drive-way of his Toorak Home ?
Yes, the Geelong bikies ask for receipts when they get their loot from Bill Oliver’s cronies.
Or maybe they just hang out there for fun…
It’s time the ALP got serious and booted out the CFMEU Construction division. Their willingness to take their crooked money taints the federal government.
That they would take taxpayers money for a dodgy site allowance on schools projects tells us a lot about their morality.
Bill Shorten’s deal is dead…
As dead as his marriage to Julian Beale’s daughter?
I love the Electrical Industry because it has ‘double adaptors’ and you can be ‘AC/DC’.
the stability deal was always a fanciful notion that could not survive in the real world.
Full credit to Shorten he has worked this out – that is why he will succeed while others are destined to fall.
More shrill hysteria from you Andrew. How about some balanced stories. Perhaps talk about why this strike is on. So we should all go quietly into the goodnight when moron bosses try and make us pay for their bonuses and mismanagement should we? Grow up!
Did someone say gay abandon?
My little Dean always like to dress up in my underwear when he was a little one.

“United we stand United we fall”
Doesnt matter who they are what they do, its their fundemental right as an australian, to drive a car bike horse etc no ones business but their own. When they turn up to work everyday they are workers and standing on that picket line they are still deemed as workers How many guys fish in that picket line? lets catagorise them too call them fishies!! What about those that drive holdens?? lets call them Holdies!!
For gods sake these guys are standing up for what they believe in!! As Aussie we should be proud that they stand behind what they think is right!!! Talk about why they have had to go to such lengths!!!! What the real issues are!!!
Well done guys !!!!!!
onya Karen. Got to keep the focus on the real issues through the smokescreen. Sounds like this story came from the JH or liberal party media unit.
i was a return to work case, Things went all right for a year Till i was asked to operate a out of service crane for a number of weeks and on anti depressants. My missus had open heart surgery and we been going through IVF. Due to being off work and no pay(i lost 8 weeks pay )asked the CFMEU to stop charging me till i get back on my feet. They had little concern and just wanted their money. Ive been a paying member here in SA for 9 years, And today i resigned. Then i read here about the fines they get and they couldn’t give a shit about me. I got my own lawyer and all.
It was once about workers but now it is about power and thuggery. Why is it when you go onto a site and smile and say hello to a union shop stupid they grunt and demand you paper work like you are putting them out. Ill vote for any party that will cripple them as they are currently.
