EXPLOITER: Tasmanian Greens Leader admits secret hypocritical fling with junior parliamentary colleague

hippyhypocrites The Leader of the Tasmanian Greens party has admitted to a secret sexual relationship with one of his of his junior Greens parliamentary colleagues.

Yesterday, state party leader Nick McKim and Cassy O’Connor formally revealed to the Greens party room of four that the two of them were exchanging more than preferences. O’Connor is the most junior member of the Tasmanian Greens, appointed to fill a vacancy just last year.

GREENS PARTY HYPOCRISY SLAMMED
It has left the Tasmanian Greens party open to charges of hypocrisy given their loud public stances recently opposing the employment of family members in political jobs. Nick McKim is also open to allegations he has exploited his position of power and authority over O’Connor to pursue a sexual relationship with her. McKim has been very loud in attacking nepotism in politics in the past year while screwing a member of his own crew. The Greens party leader told the ABC recently:

What a number of Labor members have done in Tasmania fails the common-sense test and one moment’s thought should lead all MPs to understand that the community wants some certainty around how its money is spent by MPs and part of that certainty ought to be that MPs don’t featherbed family members by employing them in their office with taxpayers money…MPs understand they have to take personal responsibility for the decisions they make in terms of who they employ in their offices.

He’s also been thundering on piously about the issue of nepotism in parliamentary offices while maintaining a clandestine and cheating love affair with one of his parliamentary colleagues. Many are concerned he’s deceived the public with positions on nepotism that are now seen as blatant hypocrisy:

“Tasmanians deserve the undivided attention of the State government in these testing times but they are not getting that from Labor now. We know that Labor in Tasmania is run by nepotism and factionalism. Unfortunately the big losers continue to be the Tasmania people.” Mr McKim said that the Greens have a policy that family members are not employed in MPs offices.

But their policy is that the Leader can pick out junior members of his party room to take to his bed while lying about it through omission to the public, family members and parliamentary colleagues. An interesting contrast between his public rhetoric and private conduct.

BOB BROWN IS AT IT TOO
Not unlike his federal leader Bob Brown who makes pious pronouncements about donations to political parties and rorting entitlements while running a private slush fund of donations that runs to millions of dollars fuelled by deceptive claims that the multi-millionaire is on the verge of bankruptcy due to litigation against big, bad loggers and multinationals. Be sure to read Eric Abetz’s interesting words on this subject.

THE PARTY THAT SLEEPS TOGETHER
McKim and O’Connor both left long-term partnerships or marriages to pursue their party room romp. In O’Connor’s case, the mother of four has left behind a husband, her second.

They declined to say when their relationship began nor did the Tasmanian press inquire about whether they were cousins. Damien Brown at the Mercury reports that the Tasmanian Greens Leader left his partner earlier in the year while Ms O’Connor only broke the news to hubby and four children quite recently.

O’Connor was elected to the Tasmanian Parliament half way through last year after the retirement of former leader and battle-axe Peg Putt.

The Greens party Whip Tim Morris insisted there’d be no conflict of interest in the fling and that they had pledged not to vote on any issue in the party room that involved each other. In a group of four people, the inter-personal dynamics are going to be a big challenge for the Greens party

  10. The Social Credit Party in New Zealand went kaput after its leaders were found having a fling. Will the same thing happen to the Tasmanian Greens?

Remember Tasmania is the land of Sydney Sparkes Orr, the sacked Philosophy Professor at UTAS who had a fling with a student young enough to be his granddaughter. Naughty behaviour seems par for the course in Tasmania. Thank you Vexnews for this scoop. As always Vexnews is first with the latest news.

  16. Part of Cassy O’Connor’s maiden speech last year.

In closing, Mr Speaker, I have saved one of the very best people in my life to last, my husband, Stephen Lees.

Father and landscape painter extraordinaire, it is Stephen who tends the home fires so we are cosy at night, who cooks meals full of love, who tries to clean the tide of chaos, juggling a gaggle of children and an activist wife.

My husband makes it possible. And he continues to create – now a little slower than he’d like – the most evocative paintings, for it is Stephen whose joy and wonderment in the Tasmanian landscape, opened my own eyes wider to its beauty.

Mr Speaker, Tasmania’s is a sacred beauty, and I will defend it with all my heart and courage, as the Greens’ Member for Denison.

  18. `We stand by him’
By MALCOLM WEATHERUP and DANIEL BATEMAN
    31aug 2006
THE Queensland Greens are standing by their Townsville candidate John Boucher despite him being charged and fined over a lewd incident in a Pallarenda public toilet.

Boucher, 55, was fined $300 when he pleaded guilty in the Townsville Magistrates Court last Monday to a charge of public nuisance.

Boucher did not appear in court but pleaded guilty by letter.

The court was told detectives were responding to complaints by local residents about activities around the toilet block at Pallarenda when they placed it under surveillance.

Officers saw Boucher approaching from a distance and a plainclothes detective entered the facility a few moments before Boucher arrived.

The officer said Boucher stepped up beside him, unzipped his trousers and put his hands inside his pants and appeared to start masturbating.

The officer said he found the action offensive and arrested and charged Boucher with a count of public nuisance.

The court heard Boucher had admitted what he had done was a ‘little bit bad, a little bit silly’.

But Boucher, who is a member of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Anti-Violence Committee, told that it was a case of mistaken intention. He said he had gone to the toilet block to check out reports of violence and harassment.

He admitted he had unzipped his trousers but had done so because he was checking out the reaction of the man who turned out to be the police officer.

Until approached by the Townsville Bulletin for comment, Boucher had not informed the Greens’ Brisbane head office of the matter.

The Greens last night took a unanimous decision to stand by Mr Boucher’s candidacy.

Greens State election campaign co-ordinator Ian Gittus said they believed the incident was an example of police harassing gay men.

“We believe John was innocent. We take John’s word on that,” Mr Gittus said.

“It is more proof that what he was investigating was correct,” Mr Gittus said.

He said the incident would add more fuel to Mr Boucher’s campaign.

“It’s not going to stop him from campaigning,” Mr Gittus said.

“It’s probably going to give him more fight in his campaign and give the Greens an issue that we are very passionate about and we’ll stand up and back John on this.

“His branch and the State election committee are all unanimously behind him.”

Speaking to the Bulletin last night, Mr Boucher said he valued his party’s decision to keep him on as their local candidate.

“I am very encouraged that the Greens are a party who value social justice,” he said.

Mr Boucher said people would ‘have to make their own minds up’ about his campaign.

He said he had been campaigning against police harassment of the gay and lesbian community for years.

When questioned why he had pleaded guilty to the matter or whether he thought he should have informed the Greens’ head office of the matter straight away, Mr Boucher said he had not thought it through.

“I didn’t think it through well enough, I just didn’t think through the issues well enough,” Mr Boucher said.

“I should have gotten advice from a lot of people.”

He said he was keen to get on with the election.

“I’m keen to be a candidate for the election, and looking for it,” Mr Boucher said.
