NO GREENS: Adam Bandt MP PhD appalled by having to eat cheese sandwiches, pasta & sauce and oats “on the dole”

adambandtphdmpGreensparty deputy leader Dr Adam Bandt PhD (Marx) cooked up a storm over the summer silly season, pledging to live on the dole. Deprived of his favoured hipster treats like organic quinoa, and other hipster morsels , the MP has admitted to Derryn Hinch’s drive-time successor Tom Elliott that he’s “struggling.”

His interview exposes the hipster is cheating quite a bit, still living in his million-dollar property near Flemington in Melbourne’s inner-city, where he lives with a former PM Gillard staffer, and has merely deducted the notional cost of renting in his electorate. That’s not quite the same experience as someone actually living in cheap premises, and interestingly, he appears to have just taken the cheapest-priced place from realestate.com.au rather than choosing to share a place or move into a boarding house or some other eye-opening experience that might have given his incredibly patronising little gesture some street-cred.

bandtholidayAmusingly, it appears Bandt had a twenty-day holiday over January prior to the cunning stunt. It is unknown at which beach location the hipster aligned his chakra in preparation for the stunning degradation in lifestyle from organic to processed snacks.

Bandt comes from a wealthy Perth family, equipping him to hate the Labor party from a leftist perspective, before advancing in an online forum the theory that the far left was doomed unless it infiltrated a party like the Greensparty, he then kicked on to the law, the bar and a PhD in Soviet jurisprudence, a jurisdiction known for its somewhat arbitrary approach to the justice system before realising his theory and getting himself into Parliament, on Liberal preferences.

UPDATE: Bandt’s representation of deprivation on his website is the instant noodle, which many people we know regard consuming as a blissful endeavour unrivalled by many alternates.

UPDATE: In further Bandt hilarity, he appears to driven his $70,000 taxpayer-funded vehicle to Centrelink to discuss his association with hardship and sacrifice by reason of his living on Newstart for a week. We love politics and generally greatly admire its practitioners but this inner-city Marxoid is not a good man, this is a cynical and vile opportunist.

  1. I suppose he didn’t try to borrow money from Centrelink by way of advance dole payments to pay for the bond on the electricity and the telephone and to buy some furniture and clothes from Op Shops.

I once lived on TEAS (Tertiary Education Assistance Scheme) which was lower than the dole. I was renting a share house in North Carlton and trying to finish my course (and destroy the Australian Union of Students). I was able to make ends meet and survived because I did some casual work at $4 an hour for the Melbourne University Psychology Department in analyzing statistical data via computer modelling.

Everyone I knew then who was on TEAS needed to do some casual work or have a holiday job to survive.

The people on the dole were worse off because they had to find cash-in-hand jobs to make up the shortfall and cash-in-hand jobs were in hospitality, retail and construction at far below adult award wages.

These three sectors were booming in the 1970’s but they are struggling now so where do the dole recipients fill the gap in payments?

Perhaps they should move into Adam Bandt’s house.

  3. The low level of Newstart allowance is an important issue, as is the plight of that brave Australian, Julian Assange – two matters taken up by the Greens and ignored by the major parties. The Greens are the only party with a social conscience. Why would true progressives ever vote for the Labor party?

  9. What happens if you dont have that food in the cupboard? Tuna Coles is 95c – Peanut Butter on special $3 where the hell does he get $5.26. Cheapest bread $1.25. Dont get me on about cheese! What happens if you live in a small town? No big supermarkets. Markup in small corner store 200% . Dont get me wrong, I think Adam is great for doing it, but he doesnt have to live in a 2 bedroom apartment where the old meter box is never read by the power company and despite complaints they dont care and charge what the wealthiest person in the street is paying for their 4 bedroom, numerous plasma TV and mod cons. $1348 electricity for a 2 bedroom no luxuries. Bill keeps rising despite paying $70 a week. Wont pay the final amount which is now over $6,000 over the last 2 years as we know the power company are thieves. Over 40,000 people in NSW have been disconnected. Vinnies and Salvos dont have enough electricity vouchers, because Barry Ofarrell refuses to print enough. State Energy Ombudsman snowed under with so many complaints. NSW the land of the living hell.

Jimmy you are clearly on the mend I see. No more obsession with Dean, you are now moving on. I am very happy for you Jimmy.

Now onto more important stuff I reckon that union members should also issue summons on NSW ALP for membership records ie, how many members do they affiliate on as against how many do they really have. How much money has been rorted via over affiliation? Now that would be a game changer for sure! I reckon all the union clowns who have been beating a path to the door of their Tory mate are going to get a real nice reward come 2014, unions and ultimately the ALP will be all the better for it.

  16. The longer you have to live in poverty, the smarter you get at it. You learn the best op shops to get clothes from for next to nothing. You pilfer things like ketchup, soap, mustard and toilet paper from cafes and fast food outlets. You take showers at university campuses where it is free. You buy food like discounted breakfast cereal, bread and sausages for next to nothing. You cut your own hair. You use the internet for free in public libraries. You can make your own furniture, grow your own vegetables, and make your own clothes. You share accommodation with many others to pool utility bills. You become an expert in public transport fare evasion and entertainment pirating. You buy cheap cask wine rather than drinking in bars and pubs. You still have access the good free things in life, like beaches and sex. It’s not a life of luxury but nor is it impossible to get by. And when you get out of poverty you are all the better for the experience and less likely to take luxuries for granted!!
