RHIANNON LETS RIP: NSW Greens Senator defies federal leader Bob Brown on boycotting Israel

leerhiannon2The NSW Greens Senator and dominant Sydney Greens numbers-queen  Lee Rhiannon has publicly defied her federal leader Bob Brown on her controversial policies advocating a boycott of the Jewish state, Israel.

Last Friday, at a Politics in the Pub function in Sydney, Rhiannon made it clear that Brown’s assertions on foreign policy were not the final word on the Greens policy on Israel.

She defended the official status of the NSW Greens policy advocating “boycotts, divestment and sanctions” against Israel. Boycotts against Jewish commerce have a long, dark history reaching its most horrifying in Nazi Germany starting in the 1930s as Wikipedia explains:

Stormtroopers outside a Berlin store posting signs with the words "Germans! Defend yourselves! Do not buy from Jews" ("Deutsche! Wehrt Euch! Kauft nicht bei Juden!").

This partly explains the odium the boycotts policy has attracted from the political mainstream.

According to a transcript of Senator Lee Rhiannon’s remarks at the gathering obtained by VEXNEWS she made it very clear that the anti-Israel resolution adopted by the NSW Greens State Delegates Council was the official and indeed unanimous policy of the Greens party in New South Wales, no matter what Bob Brown thinks:

“It (the policy of boycott, divestment and sanctions of Israel) was put forward by the leadership of the Newtown Group and adopted unanimously.  It was a well attended meeting… The State Delegates Council  is the key decision-making body of the NSW Greens…The proposal, as required under our rules, had been sitting on our notice paper…for a month so that people could consider it. There were about 60 people in the meeting, 29 local groups represented, 9 groups represented as observers, all our State parliamentary MP’s and passed unanimously.”

“We then have the Greens national policy on Israel-Palestine…At the national level the Greens have adopted a boycott on military trade and links with Israel.  One of the pieces of misinformation was that the NSW Greens were going against the national policy. As a Greens MP I don’t do that.”

“So the boycott [resolution adopted by the NSW Greens in December 2010] was not in contravention of our [the Greens] national policy and actually we do have a position calling on the Australian government to boycott any military arrangements with Israel. There is a diversity of opinion only about how we take forward the Greens position”.

That’s quite a different position from the public pronouncements of her federal Leader, Bob Brown. When caught in a huge public stink about the hateful and historically significant aspects of boycotts against Jewish commerce, damage-controlling Senator Brown denied association with the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions policy.

On April Fool’s Day this year Brown said:

Senator Brown said the Israel boycott proposal was against his advice and had alienated NSW voters when the party should have been focusing on bread-and-butter issues.
He had conveyed his views to Greens senator-elect Ms Rhiannon in a “robust” phone call this morning.
Senator Brown said the federal Greens in no way endorsed the policy.
“The NSW Greens have taken to having their own shade of foreign policy,” Senator Brown said.
“It was a mistake. I differ from Lee on that, and so do the other components of the NSW Greens, who handled so badly that part of the campaign against my advice.

The Greens party’s muddle of half-truths, deceptions and bigotry in their divisive policy on the Middle East that has a scandalous double-standard where every failing of Israel democracy is exaggerated and every disgrace of its misogynist, militaristic and maniacal enemies is minimised must be resolved.

While Bob Brown and the Leader’s office has a publicly-expressed view for Press Gallery consumption, it’s clear from what Rhiannon says that she doesn’t much care what he says or thinks. As a well-organised scion of a tough Stalinist Communist Party family, Rhiannon has the numbers in the New South Wales Greens. That’s enough of a base for her to do what no other Greens parliamentarian would dare: publicly defy Bob Brown.

Rhiannon – not her real name – had a makeover adopting a new haircut, pearls and a sharp suit or two to mark her arrival in the Australian Senate. While the grooming might have improved, it’s clear the jackal hasn’t changed her spots.

  1. Good on your Ms Rhiannon. I don’t agree with much of the Greens policies buy I hope you can get the policy changed.

I note that 120 countries recognize Palestine as a state but politically backward, or is it cowardly, Australia, USA, Canada and many Western Europe countries still do not.

My 2003 ban on Israeli citizens staying at my B&B is still in place too. The 2003 ban on Americans was lifted when Obama withdraw the troops from Iraq.

However I don’t think many US citizens will be visiting Australia after 02 Aug 11 when their country is declared a bankrupt and declining super power.

  10. Over 120 countries recognise Palestine as a state. Boycotts like the sanctions on apartheid South Africa help jolt a delinquent country into reform as so many recent South African immigrants to Caulfield, Vic, know.

Cowardly governments in Australia (Liberal and Labour) still refuse to recognise Palestine as a state along with the USA, Canada and many western European states. Most of these nations, except for Australia and Canada, are bankrupt economically too.

Yesterday it was reported that Bedouins in the Negev Desert, who say this land is theirs, are having they homes bulldozed by the Israel Government and they want to bill the Bedouins for the cost of this destruction. How pathetic Israel politicians are.

Oh, and Israel is the ONLY COUNTRY in the WHOLE WORLD which has more trees today than it did 100 years ago.

And the ‘Greens’ want to boycott it. There’s nothing green about them at all.

  15. We all know Australia is the best country in the world. That 1948 state within greater Palestine is only propped up with US money (perhaps not for long after 02 Aug 11) and funds raised overseas.

Plant a tree in a desert in greater Palestine and that will give you more trees than 100 years ago – big deal.

I remember when Jeff Kennett was Premier of Victoria that little state in greater Palestine wanted to name a forest after him. He declined.

Countries like Libya, Egypt and Lebanon have lots of trees. Lebanon has one on its flag.

  16. There is no possible way you could claim that any of the desert arab countries are greener or more progressive than israel. israel has had female leaders, they built an oasis out of a desert and a sustainable economy that doesn’t involve oil drilling and it is the only place in the middle east at the moment that isn’t having uprising to boot out their leader. Israel is far from perfect but boycotts are not the answer. Adrian, can you please tell us the name of your bed and breakfast or are you afraid normal, fair minded aussies will boycott it when visiting tassie because of your racist (which is the only word for it) views.

Just so you don’t get confused I had an Aussie Jew stay at the B&B recently but all Israelis are verboten because of Israels oppression of the Palestinians.

Andrew and others on this site know all about this boycott as do the ADC and its then Fuhrer Manny Waks who wrote about it and the local newspapers and The Age (I think) covered it back in 2003.

Business increased after all that publicity too. Middle Park isn’t Caulfield – Opps that let the cat out of the bag.

  36. Lifelong failure Adrian Jackson,

You’ve compared the number killed in NYC on 9/11 with those killed in Iraq.

I trust you are aware that the vast majority of those killed in Iraq were killed because of Islamist violence. Not the coalition. So whatever point you were trying to make, well done, you’ve uh, something…

As for Israel receiving funds from the US, yes that is correct, however the Arabs receive plenty including billions to Egypt, the Palestinians and others. What do they get in return? Death to America, whereas Israeli combat technology saves American lives (and Australians, although you probably wouldn’t have come across it when you were rationing toilet paper during your illustrious military career).

Much of the money the US gives to Israel goes straight back to American companies anyway, so the Israelis often have to buy the American stuff rather than what they actually want. Either way, as long as it’s killing Jihadis, the Israelis are doing us all a favour.

    Posted by Dan Lewis | July 29, 2011, 13:44
  37. @Adrian Jackson, your arguments invoke Godwins law and you clearly are a nasty piece of work.

Your view promotes Hitlers views that the Jews are evil, greedy devils who have no place on our planet. How dare they want to live without fear of attack.

The simple fact is Palestine has repeatedly stated they do not want just a bit of Israel – they want the whole lot and will not stop until Israel is wiped of the face of the planet. They have stated this since 1948.

Based on this mission statement, where would you place the 6 million Jews who would be displaced if this ill conceived idea ever happened. How would you help them start their new life as they would have nothing left.

Truly your ideas are Third (or should that be fourth) Reich material.

  44. Ahh the illustrious Boofa Leigh has made the front page of the paper 3 times this week! Well done Boof! Ted must really love you!

Here today by Royce Millar http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/driving-a-green-wedge-between-the-locals-20110729-1i48f.html

and again here today by Royce Millar and Jason Dowling

Royce and Jason have some good sources indeed.

There are probably a few more avenues of intrigue for these gentlemen to follow up…..

One may be found in the pre-selection processes and the subsequent election of the current Member for Mordialloc. Ms Wreford is renowned widely to spend more time in bed than ‘on the job’.

Indeed Boofa’s ‘passionate’ support of her endorsement could be purely innocent, but let’s just leave it at that. Also the fact that some of the Green Wedge land in these articles covers the seat of Mordialloc could be just coincidental.
But perhaps Royce and Jason should investigate some more here?

A second rabbit hole may be visited around Boofa always fancying himself as a big time negotiator in the local area.
A small stint with Real Estate agent Frank Hellier proved him all talk and no action; constantly chasing skirt, in and out of the office. So not much chop here for Boofa.
After Frank sacked Boofa he took on his property ‘consultant’ role.
One of his first points of call was the Green Wedge land being discussed in these articles (he was the failed ex-Member of Mordialloc and had the contacts).

Apparently he was going around to the owners of this land offering to get the land re-zoned from Green Wedge for a percentage commission of the subsequent (and greatly increased) sale price.

He teamed up with another doyen of society in the Labor party to try to facilitate this re-zoning through the Bracks/Brumby Labor government, but to no avail (not as long as Rosemary West was on the local council anyway!).

Business ‘First’ was set up to defeat Labor at the election but as far as Boofa was concerned it was more about his potential ‘business interests’ being fed by both a ‘friendly’ local member and a change of government.
And he got the double! Make no doubt about this, particularly the ‘friendly’ local member.

So here we are with the failed ex-member Mordialloc Geoff Leigh (aka Boof) on a publically funded $100,000 per year pension (indexed for life mind you) with his snout deeper in the trough, as bold and as brazen as hell.
Is there no justice in the world?

Why can’t he be prosecuted like his infamous tax cheating brother-in-law Glenn Wheatley?

Over to you Royce and Jason……

  47. I thought I would share what is about to happen to Hesbolah.Recorded by
    Psalm 83

A Song. A Psalm of Asaph.

1 Do not keep silent, O God! Do not hold Your peace, And do not be still, O God! 2 For behold, Your enemies make a tumult; And those who hate You have lifted up their head. 3 They have taken crafty counsel against Your people, And consulted together against Your sheltered ones. 4 They have said, “Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation, That the name of Israel may be remembered no more.” 5 For they have consulted together with one consent; They form a confederacy against You: 6 The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites; Moab and the Hagrites; 7 Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek; Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre; 8 Assyria also has joined with them; They have helped the children of Lot. Selah 9 Deal with them as with Midian, As with Sisera, As with Jabin at the Brook Kishon, 10 Who perished at En Dor, Who became as refuse on the earth. 11 Make their nobles like Oreb and like Zeeb, Yes, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna, 12 Who said, “Let us take for ourselves the pastures of God for a possession.” 13 O my God, make them like the whirling dust, Like the chaff before the wind! 14 As the fire burns the woods, and as the flame sets the mountains on fire, 15 So pursue them with Your tempest, and frighten them with Your storm.16 Fill their faces with shame, That they may seek Your name, O LORD. 17 Let them be confounded and dismayed forever; Yes, let them be put to shame and perish, 18 That they may know that You, whose name alone is the LORD, Are the Most High over all the earth.

Whats my Point, (its just a very old writing).

Firstly, there is almost no other time in history up to the present day the prophecy could be referring to. Israel was an occupied nation or most of the population has been missing from the Middle East since somewhere in the last half of the 7th century BC or BCE until returning to the Middle East in 1948. (My country, Australia, played an amazing part in paving the way for the Israelites to return, breaking the 1,000 year Ottoman reign during the World War One Battle of Beersheba following a stunning horseback charge known as the Charge of the Light Horse).

I believe the point where we are in history is just prior to the war that is brewing in the Middle East as described in Psalm 83 above. The players in today’s Middle East chess game are mentioned by name and location in the Psalm. Soon the leaders will get the focus off economic hardship and mismanagement in their home countries and onto their common hatred of Israel. Imagine, Sunni and Shiite drawn together by their common hatred of Israel.

Just so you understand who the players in the Psalm are, Edom, Moab, Amon, and Amalech are Jordan; Gebal and Tyre are Lebanon, Philistia and the Philistines are modern-day Palestine and the Palestinians , Hagarites are principally Egyptian (Hagar was Sarah’s Egyptian handmaid and
bore Ishmael to Abraham, Patriarch of the Israelites. Abrahams’ name means Father of many nations).

The Ishmalites and some Hagarites are considered Arabs, and finally Iraq, Syria and parts of Turkey were ancient Assyria. Jabin and his General Sisera were Arabian based persecutors of Israel, Sisera was killed with a tent peg hammered through his head by a woman as he slept exhausted, and Jabin was also destroyed.

To keep things in perspective, God loves all people, he gave his only begotten Son to save all who would believe in Him and confess His name, and that includes people from the tribes of the Arabs Egyptians and Palestinians; but all humanity, they need salvation so they don’t become puppets to be used by the enemy, the unseen beings arrayed against God.

Her silence here is deafening and discriminatory. She is a “true green” and now in the public spotlight. The beginning of the greens is upon us, at last.

  65. bravo – The west is a post WW2 cold war term to describe Western Europe and North America. The cold war is over now. Australia is not part of NATO either. We are the great south land and our trading links are increasing with Asia.

As for religious beliefs most Europeans and many Australian are abandoning it. The 09 Aug 11 census will further confirm that too.

Religion is the Opium of the ignorant uneducated masses.

Just ask a Roman Catholic boy who was buggered by a Christian Brother or a kid interfered with recently at an East St Kilda private school. The offending teacher (headmaster I think) beat a hasty retreat to Israel.

  67. Byron of Wahroonga – another upset little fella.

Were is Wahroonga? Is it some little country village with high unemployment and a pub with the pokies.

Can you be my hero Adrian, regardless of your gender?

  73. Giuseppe – The Italian economy is about to go bankrupt but Israel is experiencing high land and food prices so its the beginning of the end for them too. Tel Aviv residents had a big protest over it last week

  74. Chech out Boofa’s ‘profile’ at InsideOut Strategic:-

    Geoff Leigh (Principal Associate)

Geoff is a former Victorian Liberal MP and Shadow Minister, serving as Member for Malvern and subsequently Mordialloc from 1982-2002.

(he was booted out of Malvern by Robert Doyle and Michael Kroger and slowly lost the seat of Mordialloc through his unbelievable arrogance)

Geoff has a long and distinguished career in Victorian politics and was a significant mentor and adviser to a range of successful candidates and shadow Ministers in the election of the Baillieu Government.

(distinguished? – you have to be joking? He sat on the back bench for most of those years and was only given the Shadow position in opposition to shut him up).

(significant mentor and adviser to a range of successful candidates and shadow Ministers? – Who? When? What absolute crap! No one takes notice of Boofa in the LP , now or during elections. The only mentoring Boofa does is with himself and he is lucky he is not blind yet…)

He has provided a range of ongoing support to clients on Victorian Government matters.

(and what would they be in the Victorian Goverment Boofa? It is understood you are more a local government operative :-))

    Geoff’s parliamentary experience includes:
    – Shadow Minister for Consumer Affairs and Prices 1988-89
    – Opposition Whip in the Legislative Assembly 1985-88
    – Shadow Minister for Transport October 1999-November 2002.

(he forgot to mention his experience before entering parliament. He used to build fences! He has no acadamic qualifications – zip. Any deep thinking on issues above his gutter rat cunning is beyond Boofa. He really is cerebrally challenged….)

I have no idea whay InsideOut Strategic has anything to do with this turkey?

    Posted by Boofa | August 3, 2011, 8:53
  77. Al – Tell me you surname so I can sue you. Why don’t you go back to the European shit hole you immigrated from after WW2. What is your history Al? Are you on the dole or sponging of we rate and taxpayer in council community housing or state public housing.

Besides my ancestors can to Australia in the 1840’s and 1860’s from England (Symonds and Rowe), Scotland (Mitchell), Ireland (Jackson) and Bavaria (Zeitler) so I am not going anywhere. All Protestants and all had blue eyes too.

  78. Israel is cheaper than Sydney…

Israelis are lucky however, that they can protest against their government and won’t die for doing so.

There was a protest in Syria earlier this week. The government responded by sending tanks in and shooting at the protesters.

Luckily for the Syrians, we have antisemites like Adrian Jackson to try and distract us, suggesting that Israel is the biggest problem in the Middle East.

The despots and dictators of the world must be thrilled they aren’t Jewish, so nobody seems to care what they do to their own people.

    Posted by Dan Lewis | August 3, 2011, 21:23
  79. Dan Lewis – It’s not anti Semites its anti Zionists; got it. It’s about opposition to fascist politics not a race of Asiatic people from Greater Palestine who are linked to 3 very similar religions that believe only in one God – even though there is no God.

    Posted by Adrian Jackson | August 3, 2011, 21:38
  80. Dr Mangler is obviously a Greens voter or a friend of Adrian Jackson – otherwise he would know how offensive it is to talk about operations on Jewish people who were used as laboratory rats by the Nazis.

I enjoy a joke and I don’t mind being pilloried or my Italian background, short stature, rotund belly, balding head, long crooked nose or stutter being mentioned in jest or even in malice by some cowardly turd who hides behind a pseudonym so I cannot fire back with some well chosen and ingeniously crafted insult.

However, I would ask that all decent people of goodwill take extreme care not to downplay what happened to the Jewish people in Nazi Germany and occupied territories.

Posted by Giuseppe De Simone | August 4, 2011, 17:37
  81. Giuseppe De Simone – I watched your hero Italian PM Berlusconi saying today he knows how to run a country because he owns three companies. Perhaps you should stand for the Italian Parliament and sought that little dago out

  84. Adrian, reading your embarassing comments, you are clearly a racist and belong to the greens. If you would like my details to sue me, I will happily pass them on. Your a coward and would not have then guts to take me on you chump!

    Posted by Pedro | August 5, 2011, 11:48
  85. Pedro – You are clearly a little fella who likes to hide behind a pseudonym. Surely my comments are not the only ones you find embarrassing on vexnews? Perhaps you don’t like white folks with blue eyes.

    Posted by Adrian Jackson | August 5, 2011, 16:25
  86. Pedro – Re 29 Jul 11 (just read it). Is Petro a pseudonym for your real name Ari? You seem to like the Greater Palestine lands.

As for the 4th Reich it exists in Europe now. Its called the European Union and it largely run by Germany the only nation there with a bit of brain power.

  89. Pedro and Co – Israel is only an offshore tax haven, a money laundering centre and a hide out for sex offenders from private schools caught interfering with little children in Australia.

    Posted by Adrian Jackson | August 5, 2011, 19:31
  90. Berlusconi is not my hero as he is too much like Turnbull for my liking.

Also, I have never met Alan Jones and I have definitely never ….

Finally, “Fair go” presumably believes it is fair for an employee to resign to work for $10 an hour cash in hand so they can keep their social welfare benefits then complain that they were being underpaid when they were getting $15 an hour which is what they were told they would be paid and which they signed to say they knew they would be paid on the books legitimately with superannuation and workers’ compensation and PAYG taxation.

Anyone who tries to get one cent more from me than their contractual and moral entitlement will fail regardless of how many biased Marxist Magistrates the corrupted so-called Fair Work Ombudsman gets to agree with him.

I will fight this to the very end because there is a principle involved here – employees and employers should be able to agree on the duties of a position and the level of remuneration without any interference from bureaucrats who try to impose some external view of what is appropriate.
