Rudd warns Syrian ambassador on violence

Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd has interrupted his destabilisation of the government he serves to have a necessary confrontation with the Ambassador representing the murderous Syrian regime here in Australia.

That’s fine but we wonder why Australia permits the regime to still operate an Embassy in Canberra in these circumstances. Supporting military action in defence of basic human freedoms is no longer a popular cause – if it ever was – so diplomatically isolating the current Syrian administration might be the only way forward. Doing nothing while that regime brutally murders its own citizens by the hundreds is not acceptable, summoning Ambassadors in for stern chats is not enough.
