“SHOCKED AND TRAUMATISED”: Edwina Storie speaks out after VEX uncovered her double life, sources say she’s ready to press flush on PressTV

uglypresstvIn exclusive remarks to VEXNEWS, former glamour model and aspiring journalist in the employ of Iran’s propaganda channel Press TV, Edwina Storie has told of her distress at being exposed.

“I was deeply shocked and traumatised,” she explained last week.

The VEXNEWS exclusive on Ms Storie “went viral,” reported on many different blogs and publications around the world. The story was even reported in Spanish.

Storie would not comment on the record about whether she would continue with Press TV after being alerted to the anti-Semitic and occasionally vile nature of its “news reports” (including pieces like that screen-grabbed above that would not have been out of place in a neo-Nazi newsletter).

However, the good news is that VEXNEWS understands Edwina Storie is considering her position and is believed to be unlikely to return to the Iranian government satellite news service that has been banned from Britain and other European jurisdictions for repeatedly breaking broadcast rules by, for example, broadcasting interviews conducted with opponents of the Iranian regime, under threat of execution if they didn’t provide the right answers.

Fairfax – whose Israel-hating is usually a little more restrained than PressTV and whose approach has not yet involved subjecting its targets to execution lest they fail to provide the answers they want – attempted to ride to the damsel in distress’s rescue, saying Ms Storie “has been all but blasted out of a job.” (In unrelated news, one Fairfax reporter, sacked for speaking out against current management practices claims he is being targeted in a series of attacks on his car and neighbours)
Their old salt Damien Murphy, a long-time admirer and reader of VEXNEWS, reported:

Storie, pictured above, came under withering fire this week from bloggers around the world who coupled her job with the widely perceived propaganda network for the Tehran government with photographs of an early career as a model hopeful. They also complemented their attacks with snaps she posted on her Facebook page showing her holding a full wine glass.

Murphy, thought to be planning on leaving Fairfax for redundancy retirement soon, did rather miss the point we made clearly that Storie’s racy activities are lawful in Australia but are banned in Iran. And that propagandising for a theocratic and repressive regime, even if they only pay you a couple of hundred dollars a story, is much more than a job, it’s a statement about who and what you are.

Even Ms Storie’s triumph, winning Miss Blue Mountains 2009, and subsequent entry into the Miss Country Girl quest of that year conducted on a craft usually deployed for Sydney Harbour booze cruises, would have been strictly prohibited had the event occurred in Iran.

Storie also told the sympathetic old bloke from Fairfax she had received death threats, something we hope she has passed on to authorities, who are very good at tracking down anono-cowards these days, be they connected with foreign regimes or their opponents.

Ms Storie’s conduct as a glamour model, beauty pageant contestant or young person enjoying a drink or a party was never the issue. The shrill and ghoulish nature of the “news reports” she filed for Press TV and the contrast between the reality of her life and what she was seeming to be for her anti-Western pay-masters, that’s the worry.

And while it’s terrific if she does move on from what was clearly a grave error of judgment, and we acknowledge there’s a natural desire to put a brave face on it, it’s a shame the aspiring journalist couldn’t fully account for what she did and why. We put to her a series of questions about what she did and why and she has indicated she would not respond “other than through my lawyers.”

Legal threats. Death threats. We’ve copped them all. We stand by our story, which was carefully researched and fact-checked.

And while our approach was old-fashioned, we know that journalism is changing. Fast. The economics of news reporting is under attack as never before. Once it was considered a problem restricted to print but broadcast news and online media have huge issues too. This leaves state-sponsored and vested-interest-linked media left in the field. Shutting our eyes and pretending that AFL news from the AFL or university news from a university website or news about the Middle East from an Iranian government propaganda channel is the equivalent of truly independent media, whether it be Fox News, VEXNEWS or the Guardian is not an honest or reasonable response to the real changes that are coming and coming now.

  7. Edwina is lovely and photographs well, both are are essential for her chosen profession. She can recover from this Press TV kerfuffle, but the real problem is her flat vocal delivery. Her voice just isn’t warm, she needs voice coaching.

  10. I think she knew exactly what she was doing and she shouldn’t be let off the hook just because she is blonde and sexual.

If I were an employer in the journalism industry I would personally be very hesitant to hire someone who clearly lacks any judgement and who was so willing to abandon her dignity at the first sign of a job. That is if she didn’t already do this by posing in her panties on the internet for our masturbatory pleasure.

  24. “This article shows the true nature of west and how disgusting it is; what has someone else’s life got to do with any of you ass hole?”

Of course, in the Islamic Paradise of Iran where it is illegal to pry into someone else’s life, you will only find happy young couples roaming the streets, merrily holding hands without fear of being asked by police for their marriage certificate, because it is no business of the state if they are married or not. Nor is it any business of the state to inspect the satellite dish they have at home. The inspector only comes over to ensure it is properly connected and they are getting clear reception of all foreign channels. The government wants its citizens to be well informed, right?
