VANGUARD: Communist newspaper inadvertently links bikies and CFMEU

The CFMEU and their spokespeople have denied the presence of Geelong and other western suburbs based bikie gangs at the infamous “community picket” at the West Gate Freeway.

The CFMEU High Command would be embarrassed that the Marxist newspaper Vanguard on its most recent back page put a story reporting on that picket and also one complaining about proposed laws designed to clamp down on the organised criminal elements within bikie gangs.

The most recent edition of Vanguard reports on the picket at the West Gate Freeway organised by the Construction division of the CFMEU, delaying much-needed improvements to the bridge.

The dispute is regarded as an important one that will determine whether the CFMEU Construction union is to be let loose on bridges and roads rather than the more responsible and better regarded Australian Workers Union, known for honouring its deals and for maximising job opportunities for its members.

The connection between the bikies and the CFMEU construction union is clearly more than the union is currently letting on.

Some defenders of organised crime on construction sites say there’s nothing to see there, please avert your eyes and move on. The left-wing email newsletter Crikey has been stridently making that case, saying that there’s no connection between the crooks at the CFMEU and the crooks in bikie gangs who’ve been attending the West Gate Freeway picket.

It’s a big call, particularly in light of the violent attacks made on the home of a VicRoads supervisor last week.

  1. Say What?? You say that Vanguard links the CFMEU to bikie gangs, and your evidence is “… on its most recent back page put a story reporting on that picket and also one complaining about proposed laws designed to clamp down on the organised criminal elements within bikie gangs” One newspaper carries two unrelated stories and thats a link – have SOME self respect.

  2. Does anyone actually read Vanguard?

  3. Vexnews is able to read a lot into the compositing decision not to put a line between two stories – someone there must have done a semiotic thesis on the issue. The picket story carries no reference to the bikie story, and the bikie story carries no reference to the picket story. The bikie story does carry a reference to detention centres like Baxter, so I can expect the vexnews leap into links between people smugglers and bikies.
