SHOW ME THE MONEY: Greedy Green politician Nick Carson cashes in on Occupy Melbourne

NickcarsongreenThe self-appointed chief organiser of Melbourne’s painfully derivative Occupy protest against capitalism, currently stinking up what passes for the City Square, is a Greens party political hack and Legislative Assembly candidate with a dubious history of cashing in on far-left trends, previously revealed on VEXNEWS.

KA-CHING
Nick Carson, who tearfully admitted on facebook that his role in the globally reported yet seemingly rather pointless rally was the single greatest moment of his life, was exposed on VEXNEWS during last year’s Victorian election as being centrally involved in a bogus, unregistered environmental charity styled as “Planetary Survival”. At the time, he was the Greens out-of-town candidate in the state seat of Doncaster, where he did not trouble incumbent Liberal MP Mary “Meatloaf” Wooldridge, who was recently cruelly denounced by Labor deputy Rob Hulls as performing worse than the singer did on AFL Grand Final Day.

In fair and balanced style, we reported:

…While (Nick Carson’s) organisation solicits “donations” from the general public via cheques or credit cards on the website, a VEXNEWS Investigation has revealed there is no organisation, there is no record of its existence with register of incorporated associations in Victoria, with the Australian Securities and Investment Commission or with the Australian Tax Office.

Other than as an online vehicle for raising money, it appears not to exist.

The website sets out clearly how to give them money but says nothing about how the funds will be or have been applied.

YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO REMAIN SILENT
The financial irregularities have never been explained. The hipster Carson stubbornly, but perhaps wisely considering his potential legal liability under the Crimes Act, declined to explain his role in the “Planetary Survival” scam to members of the VEXNEWS Investigations Unit who politely made inquiries at the time.

FaciliatorYou might have thought Carson would have little chance to repeat the scam in the Occupy Melbourne context. Sadly, he’s been right into the cookie jar once again.

RAKING IN THE GREEN ONCE MORE
Sources, embedded in the protest, have told VEXNEWS that the Occupy Melbourne organisers have set about soliciting many thousands of dollars, mostly in cash, from those attending the squat-in and passers-by near the City Square.

Buckets – some full of cash – have been passed around by minions loyal to the haughty hipster Carson and have tightly controlled and counted by the former Apple store employee. Insiders warn – not surprisingly – that financial controls are limited, beyond Carson hanging on to it.

Photographic evidence obtained by VEXNEWS reveals these collections literally occurred right under his nose and under his strict supervision.

WHITES ONLY
Also causing concern at the street-meet is the “whites-only” nature of the protest. One gave voice to these worries on a far-left website:

As a young(ish?), black woman though, I felt decidedly out of place in the Occupy Melbourne crowd. How can we get the disadvantaged and marginalised communities of Australia, which are arguably the most f*cked up by many of the policies and politics the Occupy Melbourne crowd gathered to protest against, actively involved?

SleazynickLittle wonder that one-time violent anarchist turned taxpayer-teat enthusiast and occasional Age writer Jeff Sparrow has written in terms that seemed rather sceptical about the whole enterprise and suggest a looming power-struggle between the posers involved::

There’s all sorts of tensions simmering at Occupy Melbourne: about the next step, about the involvement of political parties, about the decision-making process, about relations with the police and so on. Notably, the Max Brenner protest that took place this afternoon looked quite different to the Occupy Melbourne crowd, suggesting that the integration of the existing Left with the newer activists might prove somewhat ticklish.
Again, that’s inevitable, just as it’s inevitable that there will be flare-ups and arguments.
Will these be resolved? Who knows? We need to be honest that the Australian Left has been on the backfoot for a long time now and so this new movement – if that’s what it is – starts from a pretty low base.

SPARROW IN FLIGHT?
This could sound ominously like the private-school graduate Sparrow is contemplating memory-wiping his years of goonish and bigoted militancy and attending a meeting of the Brighton East ALP branch although it reflects widely-expressed genuine concerns among those attending about the Greens party – and one of its most notorious and dodgy characters – running Occupy Melbourne for the self-aggrandisement of ambitious and greedy wannabe politicians like Nick Carson.

UPDATE: Sickeningly, the Occupy Melbourne protest morphed into an attack on chocolate shop Max Brenner on the basis that it is Jewish/Israeli owned. The bigots involved purported to “evict” the shop in an effort that wouldn’t have been out of place in 1930s Germany.

  4. It is a pity that “Occupy Wall Street” – an expression of popular revulsion at the greed of Wall Street bankers – has been taken as a theme by the loony left. Greens. Socialist Alliances. Anarchists next?

    Bring on the Police horses.

  10. Carson is a putrid mash of low rent spruiker and low skill busker. Who cares what happens to the money? If he wastes it or uses it on stupid stuff, more fool the idiots who gave it to his minions in the first place. I’d rather it was frittered away than actually used effectively on lefty campaigns.

  11. I make it a matter of principle to disregard any statement on the internet that draws comparisons between the topic and the Third Reich. It’s a surefire sign that the author has run out of valid arguments.

  12. Greens will poll more than the ALP soon, Labor will be flushed away like a big warm stinking turd at the next election, I am so looking forward to that.

  13. We make no apology for comparing rotten apples with rotten apples.

A boycott of Jewish commerce was despicable in 1933.

It remains just as despicable in 2011.

    Never again.

Top work Andrew, and the ALP think it is smart to be seen as sympathetic to these indolent knobs, they might consider the lifes saved from pacemakers, defibrilators, MRI machines, cancer treatments all delivered by those ugly captialists…fark me i’m sick of this country and the farks that look to me to pay for their chia lattes and copeis of the Age adn Green Left Weekly…this short of thing swings back hard and fast

  17. Andrew, A boycott of Jewish businesses has no comparison between it actually being in NAZI Germany in 1933 and it happening to businesses that are fronts for fundraising for military actions that are in place to do to the Palestinians what the Nazi’s did to the Jews. The Jews have aceived role reversal and are now the aggressors in Palestine, not the victim as they were in 1933. I am in no way in support of the boycott but at the same time oppose vehrmently your comparison.

  19. No TimG, Nick carson learnt this lurk from his mates like Simon Shonk at astroturf organisations Getup and Avaaz where they say they need donations because the hundreds of thousands they get from the unions and George Soros arent enough. I mean, all ‘community organisers’ like Ricken Patel of Avaaz should get $120,000 a year, right? Simon Shonk won’t even reveal how much he earns from Getup because it would prove the lie that its a community organisation. No community based organisation could ever afford to pay their people that much.

Go on Nick, for Movember, lose it and raise money for a genuine charity.

Hmmm reminds me of a guy I knew once also called Nick, same physique and the same “I need medication” look. He needs a good meal and a nice girlfriend. Can’t be him though, he’d be 40 by now.

  23. There is little difference between the former National Socialist German Workers Party and The Likud Party and other even more extreme right wing groups (Zionist settlers and ultra orthodox religious zealots) in Israel as far as oppression of minorities are concerned.

The Max Berner boycott is about bad politics, on his part, not race or religion.

  25. The Occupy Movement is a good thing regardless of any Trots and Greens who attend.

Much more credible than the Tea Party sucks who naively leeerrvvvv the system.

Missing ingredient is a larger ALP youth movement to take up the issues of corporate greed, poor working lives and lack of representation of the majority of working class families.

That tin you can see the larger guy holding, is from the socialist’s tent… It literally has nothing to do with Nick.

I’m pissed off the socialists are selling books and accepting donations, but please be accurate in your reporting.

This article is simply wrong on this point.

  39. This article is ridiculous. How can photographs prove collections were under ‘strict supervision’ from Nick Carson?? He has not been involved in ‘soliciting’ any money from anyone. People make donations of their own accord to fund the kitchen which then feeds FREE food to anyone who comes, from the hipsters to businessmen to the homeless.

Also, I am not a socialist and I do not agree with Socialist Alternative tactics but your misinformation regarding their Max Brenner protest is appalling. They are not boycotting MB because it is a Jewish company. They are targeting the company because it is owned by the very powerful, Israeli owned Strauss group who proudly proclaim their support and financial contributions to the Israeli army, who continue to terrorise the Palestinians. MB is a vehicle being used to draw attention to this very serious issue. It is YOU who are making the racial distinctions in an issue focused on human rights. Not them.

Finally, the suggestion that the Occupy protest was ‘whites only’ is completely absurd. As someone who actually spent time in the city square (CLEARLY the author of this article did not) I talked to a very diverse group of people. The protestors were given permission from the Aboriginal community to use the space, and all of them were very respectful of the fact that the protest was taking place on Indigenous land. Something the Mayor and the 300 riot police apparently did not deem noteworthy when they stormed the protestors, forcibly and violently evicting them from ‘Council land’.

    Posted by untruth | October 22, 2011, 11:24
  40. Dodgy 1980′s timeshare developer David Marriner lives in an apartment on top of his Westin Hotel in City Square. He is the type of person the people are protesting against. Was he the one who whinged to Lord Mayor Robert Doyle about the occupation of the City Square?

Doyle looked like Gaddafi looking out over the Town Hall balcony as the police anti riot goons laying into the peaceful protest.

One of the Inspector present could barely put a sentence together when interviewed on TV. This is what happens when the police enlist people with Grade 3 English

As Carson is a Green, it is unlikely that the badges are being sold on behalf of him.

    Hahahaha nice try.
