The Liberal Party in NSW have got some tiding up to do and I am going continue to draw attention to this. I mentioned the meeting on Friday night last to dissolve the Mitchell Federal Electorate Conference. These are the people who decide who their members of parliament are going to be. Alex Hawke is the federal member for Mitchell. He is a member of the federal parliament. My own view is that he shouldn’t even be in the party and that is a view shared to me by people who are writing to me everyday by the tactics employed by this man, 32 year old and by those who support him. I have had a lot of letters about that meeting on Friday night and the arguments generally say the same thing – that Hawke staked the meeting, quote, with his bully boys and his rudderless Young Liberals and therefore won every position on the conference. My letter writers tell me that Tim Abrams, whom I don’t know, has been an outstanding President of the Mitchell Federal Electorate Conference but he was not a Hawke man.

I am disturbed to learn that Ray Williams the very good state MP for Hawkesbury was handing out slips with the Hawke nominations on them. There was no ballot for any position according to correspondence to me. The elected President was the person Alex Hawke put up to be president. Now, these are the people who are going to determine who the next member is going to be. So, you organise your own people and you have every chance of being re-elected. Steve Russell, one letter writer wrote to me, that is the fellow Hawk put up as the President of the conference is quiet a person disliked in the electorate to the same degree as Hawke and has always carried out Hawke’s bidding and is in the same branch as Hawke and the surprising thing is that Russell now lives on the river in Brooklyn which is no where near the electorate of Mitchell but he did live at one point in Dural and is currently active in trying to remove the current member for Berowra Phillip Ruddock.

What the hell is going on here? This letter writer says that Russell is of the same calibre as Hawke and this will be attested to by Mr Ray Hadley who has had issues with Mr Russell when he was a councillor on Hornsby Council. He further said the Mr Russell who is the new President of the conference owes Alex Hawke because Hawke provided the resources for Russell to win a seat on council this term having missed our on council last term.

You have got to ask yourself how long this is going to be allowed to go on. My understanding is that the male selector, each electorate is allowed of a certain size for someone to be a preselector. This is a concern here, for the Upper House in New South Wales and is going to be chosen to represent the Liberal Party at the next election in the Upper House. Well, the male preselector to come from the Mitchell conference was won a Hawke staffer, Andrew Jefferies. And, the female selector for the Upper House is the wife of Andrew Jefferies who works for Hawke and the alternative upper House selector is another Hawke staffer Mark Lewis. All of which is designed, I am told, to depose David Clarke in the Upper House.

There seems to be nothing these people wont stop at and how does the Liberal Party allow this to happen. People are telling me and here in one writer, “Alex Hawke has ruined the trust that took Alan Cadman to build up over 33 years to build in Mitchell. There is no longer any democracy in Liberal branches in Mitchell”. One writer says “the only future for the Liberal Party is if these types of people are expelled from the Liberal Party for all of time”.

What is the Liberal Party doing about this? What is this bloke Neeham, the state director doing about this? What is the President Nick Campbell doing? Or are they by their silence consenting to this bullying and undemocratic behaviour.

This week on Sunday Profile NSW Upper House MP David Clarke talks about the religious right in Liberal Party politics, his involvement with Opus Dei, his involvement in Liberal Party recruitment campaigns and the existence or otherwise of that hitherto unknown phenomenon in the Liberal Party- factions.

But first, David Clarke on the dramatic demise of former NSW Liberal leader John Brodgen and allegations that he was involved:

First of all, a great injustice has been done to Alex Hawke who works for me. At no time has he spoken to any media people on or off the record.

So why not stay in the mainstream Catholic Church rather than be a member of Opus Dei?

David Clarke:

Because I believe that there are different groupings within the Church that highlight certain things, for instance Opus Dei is known for stressing that every person whether he’s gardener, or a professor or a politician can work to achieve sanctification in their life through their daily life. You don’t have to be religious, you don’t have to be a priest or a bishop or a nun, heaven is open to everybody and through our daily work we can strive to achieve that.

So why haven’t you gone further with them then, David Clarke?

David Clarke:

You know if you feel the need take you, overtake you to do that, well I guess I would but feel that what I’m doing does provide me with means of formation. They offer retreats, they offer mediations and so forth, it’s purely a spiritual thing.

So how much financial support do you give to Opus Dei, I mean do you give a percentage, for example of your salary to Opus Dei?

David Clarke:

No, my wife and I try to give, as there are specific projects, we try to give as best we can. It may be a regular amount or it may be a specific amount for a specific project.

And in the capacity that you are in Opus Dei as a co-operator is there any requirement imposed either by Opus Dei or by yourself for you to practice self-mortification?

David Clarke:

No, absolutely not.

And you never have?

David Clarke:

No, what you try to do is to lead a good life, there might be occasions of self-denial, I certainly haven’t ever practiced self-mortification. I think that’s mainly for numrearies within Opus Dei.

What do you feel that Opus Dei’s impact has been on your life?

David Clarke:

It has helped me to practice my faith, to think about matters and issues that are important, to think about daily prayer and spiritual things, meditation and I think these are very very important things that Opus Dei does stress.

Now you’ve been at pains to point out that many of your beliefs put you in the mainstream.

David Clarke:

Yes.

You reject the tag that you’re an extremist?

So when you talk of mainstream Australia, Mr Clarke, let’s get, I’d like to get a bit of an idea of what you’re talking about. I mean are you talking about the majority or a significant minority?

What I’m saying is I’ve denied the extremist tag on the basis that the issues that I’ve come forward on and I’ve been publicised about having views on, my stand has been, has the support of the majority of people or if not the majority of people, a very very significant minority of people. And what I’m saying is whether it’s the majority or a significant minority, that certainly doesn’t make it an extremist stand.

Well, first of all I believe in the separation of church and state. The situation is when we have to face issues like age of consent, like abortion, like Euthanasia, we come to a view on that legislation based on our values, don’t we. And if our religious values or lack of religious values will influence our view on that, is there anything wrong with that? There’s nothing wrong with that in that our beliefs are influencing us and what our values are.

Monica Attard:

You say that you’re, I’ve heard you say before that you’re against re-criminalising homosexuality and you certainly don’t support that community’s lifestyle, I think it can be safely said, but nonetheless a significant proportion of the community and the electorate are in fact gay. I mean what sort of importance do you attach to their views and their concerns?

David Clarke:

Well, the same value as I attach to anybody else in the community. I mean they are no different on issues like constitutional monarchy, on GST, so they should have the same input on issues as anybody else.

Monica Attard:

Okay. Let’s move on to some other issues, you’ve been active in recruiting people to the Liberal Party over the years, most notably perhaps when you were a member of the now defunct Liberal Ethnic Council on which you sat with Mr Urbancic. How close were you to him?

David Clarke:

I was elected at the same time he was to the Liberal Ethnic Council of the Liberal Party.

Monica Attard:

You knew him well?

David Clarke:

Well yes, I mean he was a member of the State Council of the Liberal Party, I mean most people who are members of the State Council of the Liberal Party would know him to varying degrees.

Monica Attard:

And were you shocked when you learned of his links to the Nazis?

David Clarke:

It came as a surprise but at the same time he put forward an explanation that he was working in his position at the behest of the underground. He put forward a proposition supported by some documents that he was part of the underground that was loyal to the government of King Peter which was in exile in London during the war years.

Monica Attard:

But was it your belief in his story, was that what made you back him and back his case against expulsion?

David Clarke:

I opposed his expulsion from the Liberal Party and sufficient people did oppose his expulsion on that basis.

Monica Attard:

And your friendship with him continued thereafter?

David Clarke:

Is still know Ljenko Urbancic and you know, many people do, he’s still a member of the State Council of the Liberal Party.

Monica Attard:

So you have a friendship now?

David Clarke:

Yes I would. Look, I would have friendly relations with him, yes. He’s getting on in years, he’s into his eighties, it’s quite infrequently that you see him at Liberal Party gatherings.

Monica Attard:

Did you sort of have to take a bit of a lower profile in those years because of what happened with the Liberal Ethnic Council?

David Clarke:

No absolutely not. I’m not ashamed Monica of anything that I’ve done; I’ve always stood for good values.

Monica Attard:

And you’re not…you’re certainly not ashamed of the continuing relationship with Urbancic?

David Clarke:

The situation is: I accept people as I find them and the Liberal Part found that he should remain as a member of the Liberal Party and the Liberal Party accepts that and he’s continued as a member of the Party ever since

Monica Attard:

Now you’re still actively involved in recruiting people to the Liberal Party as we mentioned before. What sections of the community are you personally targeting at the moment?

David Clarke:

Well I’m not targeting any particular sections and I’m not making it a life’s mission to go out there with military zeal recruiting people into the Liberal Party!

Monica Attard:

What about Opus Dei? Have you ever sort to recruit amongst their membership?

David Clarke:

No Opus Dei is a spiritual movement and there is no mixing of spiritual things and politics there.

Monica Attard:

So you don’t encourage people in your community in your Opus Dei community to join the Liberal Party?

David Clarke:

I don’t go out of my way to target any specific group of people but if you have a circle of friends, it’s more likely from that circle of friends that you’re going to get expressions of interest in joining the Liberal Party. Well certainly, I mean, nothing unusual or sinister about that.

Monica Attard:

You’ve been accused by at least two people recently, one anonymous, one not of using anti-gay, anti-Semitic messages as part of your recruitment technique. You’ve vehemently denied those allegations.

David Clarke:

Well one person has made the allegation of an anti-Semitic comment…

Monica Attard:

And you’re suing that person?

David Clarke:

I’m going to be proceeding against him, yes, absolutely. That is an outrageous, outrageous lie.

But can I ask you though about your relationships with at least one of those groups, the Jewish community? Do you have formal contacts with the Jewish community?

David Clarke:

Well as a matter of fact in my Maiden Speech I mentioned three or four up and coming young liberals in New South Wales, I made particular mention of them and one of those is a very strongly practising member of the Jewish community.

And since this allegation has been aired have you thought to reassure the Jewish community that you are in fact a supporter?

David Clarke:

Well, first of all, those members of the Jewish community who know me have certainly needed no reassurance because they know me and they know that that is totally untrue and that there is no evidence of it whatsoever.

Coming back for a moment to your behaviour and comments when you are recruiting, do you think that perhaps you might have been guilty of some perhaps tasteless comments which were then interpreted by others as being either anti-gay or anti-Jewish?

David Clarke:

No.

You’ve never played perhaps into an audience’s prejudices or perceived prejudices by telling a joke which might appeal to them but hurt other communities?

David Clarke:

No, absolutely not.

Never?

David Clarke:

No, I certainly can’t recall doing anything like that whatsoever. I believe that when I’m speaking at functions I have a consistency of belief and I just say what I stand for and I think if you do that and if you do that in a decent way you can’t go wrong.

Now there’s a recent allegation about a comment you made when leaving a parliamentary car park in Sydney last December. According to the driver, a Ms Wong, who’s a first generation Australian of Chinese descent, you allegedly shouted out to her, “We do things differently in Australia, I’m reporting you to the police.” Did you say that?

David Clarke:

The exact words I think, I thought I said, “That’s not the sort of thing we do to each other on Australian roads”, but actually at the time that this happened, because of the sun, I actually didn’t see her, I actually saw the person who was sitting in the front passenger seat and she didn’t have any other…she appeared to have an Anglo appearance to me.

Monica Attard:

But why would you make a reference to ‘Australian’ roads if you were making that to a person who appeared to be of Anglo appearance?

David Clarke:

Well because I believe where there is a situation that road courtesy would dictate that you would allow the person to go forward in fact I had the right to do so because the traffic was stationary, I believe it was a very very rude conduct and I don’t believe it is the sort of conduct that drivers should have to each other on Australian roads, certainly not.

Mitchell federally, and the surrounding state seats in particular, are now ripe to be won at the next elections by a high profile independent who will put the community first.
Seats held comfortably by a party which engages in petty and childish political infighting, particularly seats where head office interferes in pre-selections against the wishes of the community, are fertile ground for high profile independents.

The quality of most NSW Liberal politicians is still quite low. They couldn’t beat Iemma last time even with the whole Orkopoulos scandal going on.

Stacking at Hacking
At least there were no punch-ups, police or paddy wagons involved in the latest NSW Liberal Party branch-stacking brawl.

This brawl was in the cosy confines of the Royal Motor Boat Club at Port Hacking, where the Five Ways branch usually struggles to get its quorum of six.

But there was almost a crowd at the meeting last week. With 14 new membership applications on the agenda, the president, Ian Graham, smelt a rat when he saw the Mayor of Sutherland shire, Kevin Schreiber, and a former councillor, Brett Thomas, arrive “looking conspiratorial”.

Also in the crowd was Marie Ficarra, the former MP for Georges River, whom Bob Carr once described as “like Bronwyn Bishop without the delicacy”. Although not yet a member of Five Ways, Ficarra had sent out the agenda as acting secretary.

Noting the attendance of various other unknowns, and fearing the fix was in, Graham closed the meeting, declaring it potentially unconstitutional because of Ficarra’s role. Graham’s mob left and then the others held their own meeting, sanctioning the 10 new members from their camp.

On Monday Graham wrote to the NSW Liberals state director, Scott Morrison, seeking a ruling on the validity of the two gatherings. Graham thinks the other mob are positioning themselves to have a go at the member for Cronulla, Malcolm Kerr, by gaining control of a branch that is unaligned.

The other mob think Ficarra is positioning herself to take on the seat the right faction aligned Kerr has held for 20 years if he gives it up. However, she denied this, saying her job running the large diagnostic laboratory Cytyc was more than enough to keep her occupied. “I’m doing this for Malcolm … I’m probably going to be chastised, but I don’t give a shit.”

I went up to the video shop tonight to see the full movie and can I say it is an excellent film. One of the best WWII Movies I have seen.

When I get a stack of correspondence about something I know its time for me to do something about it. And the correspondence about this fellow Alex Hawke the Federal Liberal member for Mitchell whos coming up for reindorsement shortly, the correspondence about him is mountainous. There was on story in the weekend that he is up to his old antics of bikie gang politics in the North West. I might add that I saw a newspaper report also which suggested quite innocently Im sure, that I was singing off David Clarkes sheet. Id never met David Clarke until I spoke at the constitutional convention function, on one day last week, Thursday I think it was and he came up and introduced himself, its the first Ive ever seen him. So Im simply saying people are writing to me about this issue and it seems to be no one in the party prepared to resolve it, and with Barry OFarrell heading toward the premiership of NSW this matter needs to be resolved.

Party members have been threatened with suspension and expulsion from the party due to a youtube clip that exposes the slander and smear tactics of Alex Hawke in the seat of Mitchell. And the video thats so upset Mr Hawke reveals his involvement in the knifing of the Opposition Leader John Brogden, the rorting of the redistribution process in Mitchell, the forging of minutes, this is what the videos about, and the culling of John Howard conservatives within the party. And it says that he has the protection of the State President Nick Campbell, seemingly to do whatever he wants. And now people are going to be expelled for putting together the youtube clip.

This swift action is in stark contrast to how the Liberal Party acted about a month ago when they received a complaint about the misconduct of the same Alex Hawke. You might remember that on the 30th of September Alex Hawke called police to a meeting held at his office, simply because he didnt have the numbers at the meeting, 13 police responded including a rapid response unit. The next day Mr Hawke told the media, this blokes 32 I might add, that he was calling for an immediate inquiry and asked that it be dealt with swiftly by the Liberal Party and the authorities and the State Director Mr Neham who also seems to be in Hawkes pocket said he was investigating the matter. Barry OFarrell told the ABC that he was glad the Liberal State Director was taking a strong stance against those involved.

The police report went on to describe this is as a storm in a teacup and claimed it had been done to cause a bit of a media stir. Since this misuse of Police resources has been revealed, nothing has happened, absolutely nothing despite a formal complaint being lodged with the State Director of the Liberal Party and numerous follow up requests for a response by multiple parties. There is a 65 page legal document containing in meticulous detail the misconduct of this fellow Alex Hawke, I understand the document is in the hands of the State Director of the Liberal Party. Nothing has changed. The message seems to be clear, the party administration under the control of Nick Campbell from Johnson and Johnson seem to only want to defend the interests of his mate Alex Hawke, and any allegations are swept under the carpet. Well the party administrations got a choice to make, they can continue rorting the rules to cover up for Alex Hawke or they can see that the cancer is removed from the Liberal Party.

Like a Hawk in the night, Alex stalks his prey waiting for the opportune time to strike!

But not knowing that David Clarke, the slightly BIGGER sharp cheetah has one last weapon up his sleeve. As the Hawk approaches, the cheetahs runs in one direction and then another, and then circles back towards the Hawk, all whilst the hawk goes crashing towards the ground, and the cheetah jumps and pounces on the hawk. It is now that the cheetah has the hawk in his claws. This is where the hawk gets his wings clipped by the cheetahs massive choppers!!!

As the hawk runs desperately along the ground with a pathetic attempt to regain momentum and fly to safety, the hyenas! (Clarke’s crew) come stampeding in and take little of what’s left of the hawks hapless body. And then the rats (The Group) come rushing in and give the hawk a bit of justice for what he did to the mighty mouse (Broggers).

And let’s not forget! The hawk has been made a fool of by a parrot for a month on breakfast radio!!!

Oh no! Shockingly bad luck for Hawke! Having a preselection on the day of the 13th! and on a Friday! Bad bad news indeed. Could it get any worse for this pretender?

And it looks like it will be some event not to be missed. Quite a spectacle according to numerous people. Members from both faction are expected to turn up, and it looks set to be quite a heated exchange. The exchange will not be the usual policy debate, and it wont include the things that matter to the people of Mitchell. Oh no… You would expect the good, hard working people of Mitchell to get something out of a relatively young Federal MP, wouldn’t you? Some young Federal MP’s have energy and make good local members. It seems Hawke has no energy for his constituents, and no more energy to fight David Clarke’s forces. He is fed up, and his office was indeed in “meltdown” over the Hawke/Hitler clip.

All members of the Liberal party are encouraged to show up to the preselection in numbers tomorrow night, and show Mr Hawke the exact same disdain that he has has shown his constituents, and his fellow party members. The Liberal party should stack out this preselection, and show this member of parliament that we have had a gutful! and we have had enough! and that we are not going to take it anymore!!!

So the public are getting what they have voted for. A young-gun that came to office at a tender young age, with nothing to show for himself thus far, except a factional war which has spilled into the media. What a farcicial disgrace!

The factional brawls going on behind the scenes are reminiscent of the bikie brawl at Sydney airport. Not in physical actions, but in words and strategy. Hence why the phrase was coined ‘political bikie gangs’ whereby Hawke and his team of supporters, Nick Campbell and Natasha McLaren have gone to the ends of the earth for Alex Hawke. How incredibly sad, and how incredibly stupid.

The NSW Liberals yet again exposed as a complete and utter basket case on the ABC’s Stateline program tonight. The Liberal party is out of control, and directionless. The Liberal party stand for nothing and are again in the media all because of the so-called factions running riot and destroying any chance the opposition once had of winning government. How sad.

And with Barry O’Farrell standing on the sidelines like a wimp shrugging his shoulders, it makes the government look a whole lot more better when it comes to polling day. At least the NSW government with its faults is able to control itself and control the factions. And with that in mind the people of NSW will be looking for stability over mob-rule mentality. The public of NSW deserve better. Come on Malcolm Turnbull and Barry O’Farrell. End this disgraceful farce that is distracting your campaigns, and move a broom through the factional heavies in the party! Start taking these people on now. Because if you do win government, you’re going to need to show a hell of a lot more backbone when it comes to taking the factions head-on, in order to deliver what the public demand and deserve!

The Liberal party should not be inhibited by this crazy factional war that will do the state absolutely no favours when it comes to winning government.

Decisive action against the very people who are calling for action is needed. To the people who have been using strong and heavy words in the media, you are just as responsible, if not more responsible for this mess as the other side. The other side have felt besieged by your dirty-tricks and nasty little experiments. They have been marginalised, made to look stupid, embarrassed, misquoted, and dragged through the media. And you think they were just going to sit back and cop it?

All of that rubbish about the conservatives kicking out members of the Jesuits is complete and utter nonsense. It was a complete and utter lie dreamt up by a select few to make the other side look stupid.

The people responsible for this factional war are Alex Hawke and Nick Campbell. They signed off on breaking away from the John Howard conservatives and as a result caused much anger and resentment amongst the very people who they once pretended to call friends and family!

End the farce, take a broom Barry. Or just lose the next election, and then you’ll be given a broom to clean out the mess that you were told and warned about before the election. Failing that, watch as you lose the leadership, are replaced, knifed and rolled (when the factions tap you on the shoulder), and then you’ll be given a job as a janitor, where you will be given a broom to clean up other peoples shit houses in Macquarie Fields. Perhaps then you might think long and hard about what could have been, and what was so close to you at the time. Running the state of NSW. But the fact that you lost was all because of two idiotic people intent on tearing each other apart. How sad, and how incredibly disappointing.

Hey Alex Turvey – These people in the Cotton Eye Joe video look a lot like some of the people being attracted to the Hawke camp. And if you watch closely, you’ll see Nick Campbell.

They all look like a mob of members in a political bikie gang!!!

First there was the Gypsy Jokers, and now I think Hawke can lay claim to his newly formed bikie gang. “THE HAWKE JOKERS!” Or… “THE HAWKE-CHEROS!”

I wonder when the United Motorcycle Council will be convening its next meeting to accept these JOKERS as new members? And with Hawke being the master in the art of branch stacking, he thinks it will be easy to win over with numbers alone. But little does he know these people have more than just numbers!

And Hawke wont need to call the police in to back him up when things go pear-shaped. Because as we already know, the police have these meetings under watch, and are waiting outside for these jokers to emerge. For Hawke however, he’ll just call them in when the meeting descends out of control, just like it did in his electorate office. Maybe then the police can treat Hawke and his followers for exactly what they are.

No, everybody knows that Alex Hawke has been the perpetual shit stirrer of the Liberal party for as long anyone can remember. You only have to ask people like John Brogden about that, who he knifed, in order to further his own interests. The ironic thing is, Hawke is now well and truly inside their camp… It doesn’t make sense politically at all. Therefore – Alex Hawke is nothing more than a pathogen on the organ of the Liberal party, and the sooner the cancer is removed, the better off the health and well being of our great party will be. And as Hawke says “Change is difficult, but change is necessary”. Well he can start by removing himself, and doing the honorable thing by both Barry O’Farrell and Malcolm Turnbull and leaving (without a fight) and ending this factional disgrace of which he has been the chief instigator and provocateur.

And as for Penny George-Farlow working on Paul Fletcher’s campaign, well… there goes any credibility Paul had at all. I did highlight the importance of hiring quality staff, but it seems he just didn’t listen.
